St. Patrick's Day Rainbows by jijikit St. Patrick's Day Rainbows by jijikit
So, I saw this paper plate rainbow idea at my friend's craft website:  www.cindyderosier.com/2017/03/… and thought, "Oh! El and I could totally do that!  And we can add a pot of gold for St. Patrick's Day!"

Yeah, well, all good intentions....

After having bought a 100+ thing of flimsy paper plates to use for crafts 4(?) years ago, I found we were out of them!  (I can only think Karl pulled them out for BBQ's or something. Lesson learned: stick them in the craft closet instead!)  So, we had to made do with some Chinet brand (not great for crafting, fyi!)

When I got everything set up, and we first cut and painted the pots.  Then El and I found we could not actually do the technique from my friend's site, so I improvised with flipping the hand sideways and painting the colors along the fingers.  Didn't work great, but better and we finger painted areas that the colors didn't get on very well.  Doing the second plate, we tried a different way but ended up just using a brush.  By this point El was discouraged and we decided to let things dry and try another day.

The day before St Patrick's day arrived and El was still not wanting to do them, so I sat down to finish our rainbows.  I did the clouds the way the instructions said, but instead of two, I made the pot for the other side.  The top part we had already painted yellow, but then I pulled out some gold sequins, and using silver glitter glue (I didn't have gold), I began gluing the sequins.  El came over and helped by dotting the glue and telling me where to put the sequins.

After everything had dried, I used accordion-folded cardboard to help glue the clouds and pots of gold in place.  They actually looked pretty good!  El liked them so much that she made me hide them so the Leprechaun didn't think they were his pot of gold and accidently take them!

We never did hang them up, but I had fun being creative.  Now to add that 100+ bag of flimsy paper plates to the grocery list....
