Sweet Moon Rise - C.T.L. Contest Entry

Description

So I painted this picture for the :iconunsungmediums: contest: [link] You have to do a piece using some sort of liquid that isn't a traditional medium (no paints, watercolors, oils).

The medium I chose to use was: Condensed Milk w/food coloring. I got the idea from a web story on how to make cheap craft projects your toddler can do.

It's a painted version of this picture I took on our honeymoon:

It's not exact because I wasn't confident I could do an exact replica with the medium I chose; nor was I certain how well it would blend and etc. I used the picture as a basic reference to look at and basically painted the picture freehand. Choosing NOT to make an exact replica made the experience less stressful and more enjoyable.

I will say that it is NOT an easy medium to use! It has some aspects of using watercolor (the sugar dissolves very easily with water, so it's easy to remove mistakes but also easy to make "holes" in painted areas). Washes are difficult because it is much "stickier" than watercolor, so a lot of this picture is "layered" like acrylic paint but not opaque. It also takes a long time to dry, depending on how much paint you used and when it does, the texture is very interesting and lead to other possibilities in the future! AND it is very easy clean up after!

It was a fun little experiment though. I still have leftover "paint" and am thinking of trying another picture, though I probably will just paint something fun, like maybe some fishes for Elly next.

Enjoy!
