January Ornament of the Month by jijikit January Ornament of the Month by jijikit
So, :iconmagical525: is doing "Ornament of the Month" patterns this year:
Ornament of the Month SAL
Over on the NCCIH I have started a SAL inspired by the ornaments I made for the stitchingpirates ornament exchange. Each month on the first Friday of the month I will post a pattern for another ornament. They will all be 35 stitches square and use just 3 colours so are a nice little something to do in between everything else, possibly with leftovers from other projects or possibly with the colours I have set for them - it's up to you. Hopefully lots of people will join in and post pictures of their ornaments as I can't wait to see what people do with the patterns :)

January ornament finished as part of the garland finish:

I pretty much haven't done any cross stitch since I finished the Kimono Row picture last year.  That was such a huge under taking, that I think I needed a break.  Well, I'm now wanting to stitch and craft again, but was feeling intimidated by anything huge, so what better way then to do a small, quick project as well as get a head start on Christmas gifts?  And this one is definitely "bigger" than my last cross stitch (the 1 inch yarn ball).

So this is mine.  I sort of went the simple way with the ornament backing, with some guidance from my bud :iconjoce-in-stitches: (yes, the icepick worked, though the hole needed to be enlarged with a chopstick after!) ;)

I was able to use the "ugly" platinum colored Aida that I got on sale.  Not many thread colors seem to go with it, but I'm pleased that these blues did.  I wish I had the color numbers for them, but I believe they were some extras from an old kit.

So there you have it - getting productive again.  The Feb pattern is suppose to go up tomorrow - can't wait to see what it is!  :D

Lol, glad it worked!  And why have I never thought of the double felt backing?!?  What a perfect way to hide the whip stitch attaching the aida to the felt!

I ended up sewing it through all three but I think I may only do the first and then glue to the back one.  The double felt idea came from looking at the way my mother used to mat her and my grandmother's watercolors - she was always really good at matching colors.  I also like that it gives it a slight bit more weight but isn't too heavy.  :)

That is AWESOME!! I love the way you did this one! It's great to see it done in another colour too, the blues really work with that grey. I'm glad your crafty break is over and you are back to stitching  :)

I had tried all the reds I had, but nothing seem to go together, I started just throwing random combinations on the Aida.  This was the pair my husband picked.  And thank you for helping me out of my rut!  Can't wait to see what Feb's is!  :eager:

Sometimes colours just don't play nice together, so it's good you found something just by auditioning them instead :) You are more than welcome! I'm just finishing up the second one and then it will go up with pics on the site :)
